Catherine (Cathy) Mundell, LCPC, NCC, CCTP-II

Catherine (Cathy) Mundell was born in South Dakota and raised on a rural farm, where she developed a deep sense of responsibility and a commitment to community. Growing up in a hardworking, low-income household, she learned early the value of steady effort and the realities of rural poverty. As an active 4-H member, she spent her summers herding sheep and tending to the family garden—formative experiences that shaped her strong work ethic and an enduring appreciation for the resilience of rural life. During her teenage years, her family moved to Mobridge when her father was invited to assist with the agricultural and livestock programs serving the Standing Rock Reservation. There, Cathy saw similar gaps in services and systemic challenges, an experience that deepened her existing commitment to advocacy and care for underserved populations.

Cathy began her postsecondary education at Sitting Bull College in Fort Yates, North Dakota, before transferring to South Dakota State University. She later chose to pause her academic journey to focus on family life, dedicating several years to raising her two daughters. Her path eventually led her to Washington and then to Idaho, where she worked in both real estate and the construction industry. These years in labor and trade provided her with practical problem-solving skills and a firsthand understanding of the unique challenges and stressors facing working-class families.

Recognizing a calling toward mental health services, Cathy returned to school, attending Lewis-Clark State College before earning a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Master of Education from the University of Idaho. Her diverse background in labor and agriculture provided a unique, grounded perspective that she now brings to her clinical practice. In 2005, she settled in Bovill, Idaho, and in 2020, she founded Mundell Rural Care, LLC to address the need for accessible mental health support in small towns.

Today, Cathy is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), National Certified Counselor (NCC), and Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP-II). Her work is grounded in both clinical expertise and the lived values of her youth—resilience, ethical practice, and compassionate service. Outside of her professional life, she continues to find balance through gardening, rock hounding, and exploring the outdoors, staying true to the rural roots that continue to shape her life and her work.
